the bonnat family has been making chocolate in voiron, france for over 130 years. it was current head stephane bonnats parents, raymond and nicole bonnat who pioneered bonnats first single-origin bars in the 1980s. stephane has continued his parents tradition and the company now works with 35 different plantations worldwide to produce their bars.
this bar is pure 75% cocoa dark chocolate from mexico.
the story of kuna balam tells the intention of protecting the birth of a little jaguar in the mexican jungle within the family plantation. in order not to disturb his coming into the world, part of the plantation was closed. after the jaguar left, exploring this part of the jungle, old and special cocoa trees were discovered in the plantation and bonnat decided to make a chocolate bar to celebrate this extraordinary event.
